Sixth Form Code of Conduct

Sixth Form students are expected to be role models for our younger students and lead by example at all times. In return, they will experience a more adult environment where they can thrive with higher levels of trust and responsibility. We expect all students to abide by this code. However, we will take appropriate action with students who display negative behaviour.

Attendance & Punctuality

  • I will ensure a high level of attendance (at least 97%) and punctuality at all lessons, tutorial time, study periods, assemblies and exams. I will inform my tutor and appropriate members of staff in advance of any planned absence.
  • Parent/Carer will ring in on the first day and all subsequent days of absence.
  • I understand that I may leave the site once a day, at lunchtime, with parental consent and I will ensure to follow procedures and tap in and out.
  • I agree to avoid taking holidays and driving lessons in school time and not to do more than 8 hours paid work per week.
  • If I have a medical/dental appointment I will show the appointment card/text or letter from parent to reception staff to sign out and on return sign back in.
  • I will catch up with any work missed through absence or educational visits.

Academic Expectations

  • I understand that the Sixth Form has a positive work ethic and that I must arrive at each lesson fully prepared with the correct equipment and with all work up to date. I will complete work to a high standard and to specified deadlines.
  • I understand that study periods are built into the timetable to enable me to focus in on the demands of the courses that I have chosen to study: coursework, presentations or preparation for examinations. Therefore, in these periods I am to be actively studying in Somerleyton (Y12) or The Briery (Y13), the Library or other designated work areas and observe a positive work ethos.
  • I will ensure all homework is completed on time and all coursework deadlines are met.
  • If I am not meeting my academic targets, I will actively engage with the support measures put in place.

Behaviour & Uniform

  • I understand that students should be respectful, considerate and polite to members of staff and to each other.
  • Any form of bullying, harassment or offensive behaviour will be treated as a serious disciplinary offence.
  • I will respect the school environment including Somerleyton and The Briery. I will do my part to ensure that all areas remain clean and litter free.
  • I understand that I may use a mobile phone in the common room but not in main school and never in lessons unless expressly directed to by a teacher.
  • I will only use computers for educational purposes, relating to my studies in line with the ICT agreement and will place laptops on charge.
  • I will abide by the Sixth Form uniform policy and remove outdoor clothing. I will wear a lanyard at all times and no facial piercings (nose studs or other unorthodox forms of jewellery); no clothing with slogans, no ear pods.
  • I agree to not smoke or vape within the vicinity of either school.
  • I will not bring any banned items onto the school site e.g. vapes, weapons, alcohol or illegal substances and understand that possession of these items may result in permanent exclusion.
  • I have read and understand the Sixth Form sanctions and suspension protocol.
  • I have read and agree to all the sections in the handbook.
