Sixth Form Overview

By choosing St. Aidan’s and St. Anthony’s Sixth Form, you will be making a decision that will help ensure your passage to the wider world of higher education or successful employment. A level work is challenging and it is a busy time but we work hard to promote a balance between the structure you have been used to in secondary school and greater independence.

We have Sixth Form Centres on 2 sites – Somerleyton (on St. Anthony’s site for Year 12) and the Briery (on St. Aidan’s site for Year 13), with dedicated social spaces, study areas, computer facilities and hot drinks and snack facilities. With around 380 students in our Sixth Form, we offer outstanding teaching and strong pastoral care. We are proud of the provision we offer, which allows students to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge, as well as providing many opportunities for students to develop as individuals in a more social, moral and spiritual sense. We offer a wide-ranging curriculum of A level and BTEC options and offer of extra-curricular activities.

At our sixth form, every student is valued and every student’s talents and interests are nurtured and encouraged. Students are given many opportunities to explore and develop in faith, whether that is through contributing to form assemblies, leading prayer or the opportunities to develop faith through masses, pilgrimage, Cafod young leaders and the John Paul II Award. In a competitive market, we seek to ensure that our students stand out from their peers. For example, students are offered opportunities to get involved with work experience placements, University and Apprenticeship visits and talks, Careers Fair and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. In addition to this we are all able to call upon a vast network of former students who are only too willing to come in to help with personal statements, applying to Oxbridge/ medical and Dental students as well as interview techniques and modern apprenticeships. We also have an enormous range of visits to places as varied as Parliament in London, Paris Barcelona, India, Cambodia and NASA

Life in the Sixth Form is busy and exciting. There is an atmosphere of focus and direction, but also a sense of camaraderie and mutual support. The support for sixth formers begins now, in Year 11, as we work with students and their families to ensure students are placed on appropriate courses, that are suitable and that are linked to students’ career aspirations.
